Lonard Rises in World Rankings


Peter Lonard successfully defended his title at the Australian Open and in doing so jumped 20 spaces to 45th in this week's Official World Golf Rankings.
The top-12 remained the same as last week with Vijay Singh followed by Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen, Masters winner Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington, Davis Love III, Mike Weir, Sergio Garcia, Adam Scott, Stewart Cink and Darren Clarke.
Stuart Appleby, who finished second behind Lonard, climbed five spots to 13th this week. Miguel Angel Jimenez and Chris DiMarco each slipped one to 14th and 15th respectively.
Jim Furyk held on to the 16th slot, while British Open champion Todd Hamilton stayed put at 17. Kenny Perry tumbled three notches to 18th. Chad Campbell held steady at 19.
Stephen Ames moved up one space to 20th, while former PGA Champion David Toms dropped out of the top-20 to 21.
The big mover of the week was Stephen Dodd. Dodd claimed his first European Tour title as he won the Volvo China Open. With the win, he vaulted from 229th to 167th in this week's rankings.
