Lorena Strengthens Grip on No 1 Ranking


Lorena Ochoa kicked off her 2008 season with an 11-shot win over Annika Sorenstam at the HSBC Women's Champions tournament, strengthening her lead in the world rankings.
Ochoa, the two-time reigning Player of the Year, now leads Sorenstam by 7.96 average points -- the same distance between Sorenstam and the 123rd-ranked player in the world.
The win was Ochoa's 15th since April 2006.
Behind the second-ranked Sorenstam, Karrie Webb parlayed her fifth-place tie in Singapore to a one-spot bump in the rankings, moving up to No. 3 and dropping Suzann Pettersen to No. 4.
Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Ji-Yai Shin, Jeong Jang, Juli Inkster, Mi Hyun Kim, Morgan Pressel, Momoko Ueda and Se-Ri Pak held onto their positions from 5-13.
Stacy Prammanasudh shared fifth place with Webb on Sunday and moved up one spot to 14th, dropping Jee Young Lee to 15th. Brittany Lincicome remained 16th, while Yuri Fudoh was up one spot to 17th, knocking Ai Miyazato to 18th.
Seon-Hwa Lee moved up one to 19th and Sakura Yokomine was down two to 20th.
