LPGA Starts Tour of Asia


This event features 84 players, 60 from the LPGA Tour and 24 from the Korean LPGA Tour.
This is the first year of the event and the first tournament in Korea since 1997. Last year was to be the inaugural event, however the tournament was cancelled due to the tragedies of September 11th.
Six of the top-10 players on the LPGA Tour are competing this week including Annika Sorenstam, who is seeking her 10th win of the season. The last player to win 10 events in a single season was Kathy Whitworth in 1968.
The 60 players from the LPGA Tour represents the top-60 on the money list at the conclusion of the Williams Championship.
This is the first of three straight Asian events on the LPGA Tour. Next week, the Tour moves to Japan for the World Ladies Match Play Championship followed by the Mizuno Classic.
Sorenstam is the defending champion in both events and is expected to compete in each tournament.
