Mackenzie Hanging on to Lead in Montreal

Canadian Tour-LargeMONTREAL, Que. -- Brock Mackenzie carded a 5-under 67 Friday, but his lead shrunk to one stroke with the second round of the Montreal Open suspended due to darkness. Mackenzie ended his opening 36 holes at 16-under- par 128.
There was an 80-minute weather delay in the afternoon as a thunderstorm rolled through the area. Play resumed after that delay, but was later halted for the night at 8:35 p.m. (ET) due to darkness. Players will return to the course at 7:30 a.m. Saturday to complete the second round. The third round is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
Wes Heffernan fired a 9-under 63 to jump into second place at minus-15. Rob Johnson flew up into a share of third place thanks to a 10-under 62 on Friday. He was joined in third place at 14-under-par 130 with Brian Guetz (66).
Darren Griff is alone in fifth place at 13-under-par 131 after a 64 on Friday. Lee Curry is one stroke further back at minus-12 after a second-round 65.
Mackenzie flew out of the gate with birdies on the first two holes at Quatre Domaines Golf Club. That helped him post 3 under on the front nine. He led by one heading to the par-5 18th, but missed an 8-foot birdie effort that could have extended his lead.
'You know, I may have hit it better than Thursday, but I just couldn't make the putts,' admitted Mackenzie. 'It was a lot tougher with that wind. But I'll take my 67, I backed it up the way I wanted to.'
Heffernan went flying up the leaderboard as he played the final 13 holes at 9-under par.
'It's not often you shoot 15-under after the second day, so I have no idea what to expect this weekend,' Heffernan stated. 'It's just going to be whoever can make the most birdies out here. It should be an interesting next two days.'
Christopher Baryla is alone in seventh place at 11-under-par 133 after posting at 6-under 66 Friday. Matt McQuillan, Ben Bunny, Nathan Smith, Brian Nosler and Justin Snelling are one stroke further back at minus-10.
