Mezei finished at 13-under 271, fending off a final-round challenge from Derek Gillespie at Pine Ridge Golf & Country Club to claim the $24,000 first-place check.
The win didn't come easy. Mezei heard the crowd roar when Gillespie chipped in for a birdie at the 18th hole to pull even, leaving Mezei with just two holes to regain his lead.
He knocked a 132-yard wedge shot within about a foot at the 17th to set up a birdie to take the lead back, then two-putted for par at the 18th to preserve it.
'I knew where I stood,' said Mezei. 'What a rush. Tapping in for your first win -- it doesn't get any better.'
He became the fourth Canadian to win on tour this season -- the first time that has happened since six Canadians were victorious in 1996. Three of the winners -- including Mezei -- have been from Alberta.
'There must be something in that southern Alberta water,' Mezei joked.
Gillespie fired a 6-under 65 to end alone in second place at 12-under 272, while Dustin Risdon (70) and Craig Taylor (67) shared third place at 9-under 275.
