Nationwide Tour Gets New Sponsor

Nationwide TourThe Nationwide Tour announced Friday that the Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina has taken over as sponsor for the tour's annual stop in Raleigh.
The Rex Hospital signed a three-year deal to sponsor The Rex Hospital Open, which will be played May 5-8 this year at the Tournament Players Club at Wakefield Plantation.
The 12th playing of the tournament, like all Nationwide Tour events, will give its net proceeds to local charities which at this stop will be the Rex Hospital.
The hospital will use the proceeds to support its own programs. Among the areas of the hospital that will benefit are the cancer and heart disease education and early detection programs, including the Rex Mobile Mammography unit that has brought life-saving services to the community.
'We are excited about the evolution of our community outreach programs, as well as our participation in the local golf scene,' said David Strong, president of Rex Healthcare. 'We've gone from hosting the Rex Classic, a one- day Pro-Am event, to title sponsorship in Raleigh's Nationwide Tour event, The Rex Hospital Open. By becoming a part of the PGA Tour's Nationwide Tour event at Wakefield Plantation in May, The Rex Hospital Open has reached a whole new level of commitment to the health of our community.'
In 2004, the then-named Carolina Classic was won by Chris Anderson in a four- way playoff.
