Nissan Open staying through 2006

Nissan North America, Inc., extended its sponsorship of the PGA Tour event at Riviera Country Club through 2006, it was announced on Monday.
The previous agreement was scheduled to run out after next year's event but the new deal means that the Nissan Open will continue past Robert Allenby's defense in 2002.
The 2002 tournament will feature the largest purse in history, $3.7 million, with the winner pocketing $666,000 for his effort.
The 2002 Nissan Open, which is the longest civic-sponsored event on the PGA Tour having began in 1926, takes place Feb. 14-17 at Riviera.
In 2000, Allenby birdied the first playoff hole to best six other players in a playoff that matched the record for the most players in a playoff in PGA Tour history.
