A total of 74 players were left on the course as thunderstorms halted play at 4:00 p.m. EDT before the round was eventually suspended. Those players will return to the course early Saturday morning.
Daley had an early tee time at Glenmaura National Golf Club and made his first birdie of the day at the par-4 fifth. He added another birdie at the very next hole before three-putting for bogey at No. 7.
It wasn't until the back nine that Daley caught fire. The 41-year-old Pennsylvania native got on the green in two at the par-5 10th and ran home a 10-foot putt for eagle.
Daley collected four more birdies over the closing seven holes to establish a new 36-hole scoring record for the tournament with his 12-under-par 130 total, shattering the previous mark by five strokes.
'I was just thinking about giving myself opportunities and executing each shot,' said Daley. 'I hit a lot of greens and fairways today.'
Doug Garwood was at 8-under through eight holes before play was called.
Pete Morgan posted a second-round 66 to finish five shots off the pace at 7-under-par 135. Gary Hallberg was also at 7-under but was through 11 holes as the round was suspended.
Don Reese was also able to complete his round. He set a new 18-hole course record with a 9-under 63 and finished the first two rounds at 6-under-par.
