PGA Tour Reaches Agreement to Extend BC Open

PGA Tour (75x100)The PGA Tour and the B.C. Open has agreed to extend the tournament through 2006, William Lane, the president of Broome County Community Charities, Inc., has announced.
The B.C. Open, which takes place at the same time as the British Open, has offered playing opportunities for those remaining on the domestic circuit. It has been held at the En-Joie Golf Club since 1971.
Rumors that the tournament would be moved out of the area began as a result of problems concerning the management of the public golf course.
The contract extension also calls for an increase in the tournament's purse. This year the total prize money will amount to $2.1 million, up $100,000 from last year. By 2006, the purse will increase to $3.5 million.
A new television agreement was also in line as the event will broadcast on the USA Network beginning in 2003.
