Player of the Year Trophy Honors Nicklaus

Nationwide TourPONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The Nationwide Tour will now honor the Player of the Year with the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, it was announced Friday.
Player of the Year recipients on both the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour have been honored with the Jack Nicklaus Trophy each year, but 2003 will be the first time a Nationwide Tour player is awarded with the trophy.
'In recognition of the growing standard of play on the Nationwide Tour, we felt it appropriate to award the same trophy to the Players of the Year on all three of our tours,' said PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem. 'When we suggested this change to Jack, he wholeheartedly endorsed the idea. We are grateful to him for allowing us to use his name to honor our top players.'
Nicklaus himself made an appearance on the Nationwide Tour this year and tied for 45th at the BMW Charity Pro-Am, an event in which his four sons were also present.
