European TourKUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Heavy rain along with thunder and lightning on Saturday forced the suspension of play for the second straight day at the Carlsberg Malaysian Open.

Rain has drenched the Palm Course at Saujana Golf & Country Club over the past two days. After players returned to the course Saturday morning to complete the second round, third-round action followed but play was stopped again as the skies opened in the afternoon.

Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand was on an incredible pace before the round was called. He opened with four birdies over his first seven holes to move to 6 under before finding trouble with a bogey at the eighth.

Jaidee recovered with a birdie at the very next hole and ran off three consecutive birdies starting at the 11th to take the outright lead.

'My game was very good today,' said Jaidee. 'I'm feeling good with my game right now.'

Jaidee, who is seeking his first career victory on the European Tour, stands at 9-under par through 13 holes.

'I'm going to try and keep myself in the lead tomorrow as with this weather, you might never know if it will be a 54-hole tournament,' said Jaidee.

Fellow countryman Chawalit Plaphol also enjoyed success on Saturday before the arrival of the inclement weather. Plaphol tallied back-to-back birdies from the sixth and dropped his approach inside six feet for a birdie at the 10th.

Plaphol picked up another birdie at the very next hole to move to 8 under par through 11.

Thailand had plenty of presence near the top of the leaderboard with Prayad Marksaeng also at minus-8 through eight holes.

Korea's Sung-Man Lee, American Gregory Hanrahan and Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand stand at 8 under par through seven.

Colin Montgomerie continued to battle the high temperatures on Saturday. The Scot was at 5 under par through eight holes when play was called.

The third round will resume at 8:00 AM local time Sunday. The final round is scheduled to follow with players remaining in their third-round groupings.
