R.W. Eaks and Gil Morgan share the lead after they each shot rounds of 7-under-par 65 on Friday. Jim Ahern is one shot behind the leaders at minus-6.
Dana Quigley, the 2000 champion bogeyed the 18th hole to slide to minus-5 and a tie for fourth. He was joined there by Tom Watson, Rodger Davis, Dick Mast, Gary McCord, Mark McNulty, Lonnie Nielsen, Dan Pohl and two-time champion Jim Colbert.
The first round was completed on Friday despite a weather delay prior to the round and a one-hour, 24-minute delay during the round.
There has been rough weather in the area all week. On Wednesday, there were straight-line winds of about 60 miles per hour that destroyed the media tent.
Allen Doyle, the defending champion, is tied for 37th at 1-under-par 71.
