Roberts Leads as Second Round Concludes

HARRISON, N.Y. -- Loren Roberts, who followed his opening 64 with a 3-under 68 on Friday, held on to the lead at 10-under-par 132 as half the field completed their second rounds of the Buick Classic Saturday morning.
David Gossett finished alone in second place at 9-under-par 133 after carding a 67 Friday afternoon.
The rain that pounded the West Course at Westchester Country Club on Friday delayed play five hours and 78 golfers were unable to finish the second round before darkness set in.
Chris Smith and Jerry Kelly were still on the course Friday when the action was brought to a halt. Each stood at 6-under-par when the horn sounded and both made up a stroke to reach 7-under through two rounds.
Stewart Cink put the finishing touches on his round of 69 to join Jose Coceres, who birdied the 18th Saturday morning, in fifth place at minus 6.
The 36-hole cut fell at 1-over-par 143, with several big names failing to make it to the weekend. Vijay Singh, David Duval, Jose Maria Olazabal, Bernhard Langer and Jesper Parnevik were among the players who came up short of qualifying for the final two rounds.
