EDINA, Minn. -- Current United States Solheim Cup captain Patty Sheehan will again serve in that role for the American team in 2003, when the event takes place at Barseback Golf Club in Sweden.

Sheehan, who played on four U.S. Solheim Cup teams, was named captain by a five-member selection committee formed by the LPGA Board of Directors.

'This is such a wonderful honor for me,' said Sheehan. 'I am so excited to have the opportunity to again lead the U.S. Solheim Cup team. I really enjoyed playing on four U.S. teams, and although being captain these last 18 months has been a lot of work, it has been very rewarding as well.'

Sheehan still plays a limited schedule on the LPGA Tour. She became the 13th member of the LPGA Hall of Fame on March 21, 1993 after recording her 30th career victory at the Standard Register PING. Sheehan has accumulated 35 tournament titles, including six major victories.

This year's Solheim Cup will be contested at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minnesota from September 20-22. The European team is the defending champion.
