Sutherland reached the Buy.Com Tour record books Friday after his 36-hole total of 127 matched the tour's record for low opening 36 holes and his six-shot lead also tied the Buy.Com Tour record.
But on Saturday, Sutherland struggled to a 1-over 72 and coupled with Briggs' 67, the two found themselves tied at the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round.
On Sunday, Sutherland once again struggled with three consecutive bogeys, starting at the eighth hole. Briggs took the outright lead in the tournament but Sutherland had a trick up his sleeve.
He birdied the par-5 12th and then holed out from the fairway at the next hole for an eagle-2 and the lead in the tournament. Sutherland bogeyed the next hole but Briggs double-bogeyed the same hole to extendSuthe
Briggs responded with back-to-back birdies at 16 and 17 but another birdie by Sutherland at the 17th gave him his first title on the Buy.Com Tour.
Sutherland is a member of the PGA Tour who returned to action in this event after shoulder surgery in March. His return was worth $76,500 for the first-place prize.
Jason Hill and Rod Pampling shared third place 14-under par.
