It was also announced that the Sybase Classic, which will tee off May 17-20, increased its purse to $1.4 million and the tournament will move to Upper Montclair Country Club.
'We appreciate and applaud Sybase's commitment to the LPGA and its players and we are pleased to announce the extension through 2009,' said LPGA Tour Commissioner Carolyn F. Bivens. 'Sybase and the Sybase Classic have always represented excellence and the purse increase combined with the move to Upper Montclair Country Club will only continue its tradition.'
Upper Montclair Country Club is no stranger to competitive, professional golf. It hosted the Champions Tour from 1993 to 2002, the LPGA Tour in 1979, 1980 and 1984 and the PGA Tour throughout the 1960s.
Lorena Ochoa, the 2006 LPGA Tour Player of the Year, is the defending champion as last year's Sybase Classic was trimmed to 54 hole after bad weather eliminated almost all play on Thursday and Friday.
