Torrance to Make Champions Debut in Maryland


HUNT VALLEY, Md. -- Legendary European golfer Sam Torrance committed Thursday to make his Champions Tour debut in next week's Constellation Energy Classic.
Torrance, along with Christy O'Connor, received sponsor's exemptions to compete in the field of 81 players at Hayfields Country Club from September 12-14.
Torrance, who turned 50-years-old on August 24th, was the captain of the victorious 2002 European Ryder Cup team. He has played on eight Ryder Cup teams and has teed it up in a European Tour record 675 events.
'We are thrilled that legendary golfer Sam Torrance is making his Champions Tour debut here in the Constellation Energy Classic,' said tournament director Joe Rotellini. 'Having two top players from the European Tour come to Baltimore to compete makes our already strong field of competitors even more exciting for our fans.'
Among the other players in the field are Bruce Fleisher, a 16-timer winner on the Champions Tour; Stewart Ginn, the 2002 Senior Ford Players Championship winner; John Jacobs, the 2003 Senior PGA winner; Tom Kite, a seven-time winner on the senior circuit and Craig Stadler, a fellow Champions Tour rookie.
