Wachovia Announces Sponsorship Extension

CHARLOTE, N.C. -- Wachovia Championship officials announced Wednesday a contract extension that will bring the PGA Tour to the Charlotte area through 2010.
The Wachovia Championship has one of the biggest purses on the tour and attracts some of the top players in the game, including 2003 champion David Toms, Tiger Woods, the red-hot Phil Mickelson and 2004 champ Joey Sindelar.
'This is an exciting day for everyone involved with the Wachovia Championship,' tournament director Kym Hougham stated. 'The support we have received from Wachovia is second to none on the PGA Tour and we are extremely grateful to have this kind of commitment from our title sponsor.'
The 2005 Wachovia Championship will take place May 2-8 and the 2006 Championship week will be held May 1-7.
'Without question, the Wachovia Championship has established itself as a tremendously successful tournament in just two years,' PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said. 'Not only is this a tribute to Wachovia's commitment as title sponsor and Quail Hollow Club's as the host site, but points to the outstanding support from the entire Charlotte area.'
