'My original plan was to have both my hip and shoulder treatments about the same time,' said Watson, last year's Player of the Year on the Champions Tour. 'If I was going to be down for one, it made sense to be down for both at about the same time.'
Watson was scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery on his hip on Tuesday, but cancelled it when he was told the procedure would not guarantee to make him pain-free. He said he would go ahead with surgery on his right shoulder this week or next, but plans changed on Friday.
'I have decided to take the conservative route and alleviate the pain with cortisone and anti-inflammatories, and continue to monitor things and deal with the pain,' said Watson.
Watson will stick to his original plan and shut it down for the remainder of the season. When he was scheduled for surgery, Watson hoped to be back in time for next year's Masters.
