Wie Accepts Exemption to Play in SBS Open


HONOLULU -- Michelle Wie officially accepted an invitation on Wednesday to play in the LPGA's 2005 SBS Open in February. The event will be contested at the Turtle Bay Resort.
Wie played in seven LPGA events in 2004 and also teed it up on the PGA Tour at the Sony Open in Hawaii. The 15-year-old will play that event again this year after missing the cut by one stroke last year.
Her best finish in 2004 came at the season's first major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, where she finished fourth. In her only other major appearance in 2004, Wie finished tied for 13th at the U.S. Women's Open.
According to organizers, the field at the SBS Open will also include Grace Park, Se Ri Pak, Cristie Kerr, 18-year-old rookie Paula Creamer and women's world No. 1 Annika Sorenstam.
