Wie to Play in LPGA Championship

2005 McDonaldAmateur phenom Michelle Wie has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2005 McDonald's Ladies Professional Golf Association Championship, one of four majors on the LPGA tour.
Wie has become one of golf's most recognizable players ever since bursting onto the amateur scene at the age of 12. Now 15, she became the youngest player to win the United States Women's Amateur Public Link when she captured the 2003 event at 13, then made the final pairing at her first-ever LPGA major event, the 2003 Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Wie also accepted a sponsor's exemption to compete in last week's Sony Open on the PGA Tour, but missed the cut after shooting nine-over for the first two rounds.
'We could not be happier having Michelle Wie in our field,' said tournament co-founder Herb Lotman. 'This is what ladies golf is all about -- the best of the best competing in one field.'
The 2005 LPGA Championship will be held June 9-12 at Bulle Rock Country Club.
