The Woodlands to Host World Championship


THE WOODLANDS, TX - The Tournament Players Course at The Woodlands has been selected as the new site for the 2003 Samsung World Championship, an LPGA Tour event that features 20 of the top women players in the world.
The tournament, which is 72 holes, will carry an $800,000 purse and will be played October 6-12. Annika Sorenstam will return to defend her title at the event, which pays $167,500 to the winner. Sorenstam shot a tournament-record 22-under-par 266 this year to win the tournament at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, California.
The field will include the winners of the four LPGA majors - the Nabisco Championship, the McDonald's LPGA Championship, the U.S. Women's Open, and the Women's British Open. It will also include the 2002 Vare Trophy winner and the LPGA's leading money winner of the current year.
The TPC at Woodlands is a par-72 course that measures 7,018 yards from the back tees.
