With the spring season officially underway, the journey to Nationals now begins in earnest. On the mens side, three teams have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Georgia, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State had fall seasons better than the others, and have positioned themselves nicely to be the teams to beat as the spring moves along.
Over on the womens side, Duke once again finished the fall with a perfect record, and is a near unanimous No. 1 team in the land. But we have seen this before with the Blue Devils. With just a five player squad, Head coach Dan Brooks runs the risk of being shorthanded, as he was this week in California, as his top player Liz Janangelo did not make the trip due to pneumonia. Dont overlook last years national champs UCLA, as they will be primed to defend their title. Georgia and Washington are two other teams to keep an eye on as well.
The great part about this sport is when you think you have your finger on the pulse of what will happen, some player or team will catch fire at the right time of the season, which usually makes for great theater as May Madness is just three months away.
A new addition to our show this year will be an Ask Steve segment, where I look forward to responding to any question or thought you would like to ask me on the landscape of college golf. We will answer some emails on the show each week, as well as acknowledging some others in my weekly column right here on TheGolfChannel.com.
Dont forget we have moved to a new day this year, Thursday nights at 10:30 p.m. ET. I look forward to seeing you there.
