New Yorks Noise May Carry Over to Connecticut

CROMWELL, Conn. -- The week following a major championship usually means a so-so field, but this week some of the best players in the game are entered. Five of the top 10 are here, in fact, led by defending champion Phil Mickelson. Also here - Sergio Garcia, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh and David Duval. And the young guns: Charles Howell III and Bryce Molder, both searching for PGA Tour win No. 1.
The fans always turn out to support this tournament. People are saying that after watching last week's raucous crowds at Bethpage Black, the paying customers at the GHO will likely continue the noise. Watch and listen on the last few holes for some big-time cheering.
Celebrities will be all over the place at Wednesday's Pro-Am. Mickelson is playing with Connecticut Governor John Rowland. University of Connecticut head basketball coach Jim Calhoun is playing with Matt Kuchar. Actor Leslie Nielson is in a group with Tim Herron. Super Bowl winning coach Bill Belichick is playing alongside John Daly. It's interesting to see the Tour players interact with stars from other professions, each being enamored with the other. The golfer wants to talk about what his partners do for a living. The partners just want to talk golf.
Should be a fun week in the Hartford area. Please join us on Golf Central each night for daily reports. See you then.
