It's gorgeous here. The Coachella Valley is surrounded by mountains everywhere you look. The weather is supposed to be perfect all week. High's in the 60's, not a dime of humidity.
Golf is only half of the show at The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. The celebrities make up the other half. Athletes such as Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens and Emmitt Smith are playing. Actors Samuel L. Jackson and Joe Peschi also brought their clubs. So did musicians Alice Cooper and Justin Timberlake. Speaking of Justin, you would not believe how many 9- to 13-year-old girls have skipped school the past two days just to get a glimpse of the NSYNC star. It will be fun to see how much trouble the girls get into when they start screaming for their hero on the course. Something makes me think the PGA Tour isn't going to like all of that screeching.
The pros really enjoy playing this event. In it's 43rd year, 'The Hope' has attracted some of the games brightest stars. David Duval, John Daly, Fred Couples, David Toms and Phil Mickelson are all entered. Phil is making his 2002 debut. His wife Amy gave birth to the couples second daughter in October. Phil's last competitive round was at the NEC Invitational. In August! We'll see if there's a little rust on the clubs of the world's second-ranked player after the long lay-off.
It should be a fun week. We'll try to introduce you to some of the stars and maybe even throw in a few golf shots on Golf Central each night we're here. Hopefully you'll tune in.
So long for now from the California desert.
