Quench your thirst at these watering holes near PGA National Resort Spa

RSS

Guanabanas in Jupiter, Fla.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – There are so many watering holes near PGA National Resort & Spa, host of the Honda Classic, that thirsty fans might dub PGA Boulevard 'the beer trap' in homage to the brutal three-hole stretch at the resort's Champion course known as the Bear Trap.

That'd be a mistake, though, on two counts. First, there's more than mere beer to quench your thirst after a day of following the PGA Tour's best. Secondly, a bit further afield than PGA Blvd. (just up the road in Jupiter to be exact), you'll find a one-of-a-kind oasis that's not to be missed.

At any rate, if you're heading to PGA National to watch the Honda Classic action – or better yet, to play one of the resort's golf courses – consider winding down at one of these South Florida favorites:

iBar at PGA National Resort & Spa

400 Ave. of the Champions
Palm Beach Gardens
561-627-4852
www.pgaibar.com

This trendy hotspot was part of PGA National's recent $65 million reinvention. The wine list is long and the cocktails top shelf. Hungry? Try the PGA Slider Trio of mini burgers or stone-roasted pizzas. There's a DJ on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

iBar may be your best bet for golfer/celebrity sightings during the Honda, according to Rebecca Seelig, who grew up in the area and now runs Palm Beach Public Relations. 'During the week of the Honda Classic, local favorites like the iBar become increasing popular especially for the visiting pro golfers,' she said.

Yard House Palm Beach Gardens
11701 Lake Victoria Gardens
Palm Beach Gardens
561-691-6901
www.yardhouse.com

Located in the Downtown at the Gardens shopping area, the Yard House specializes in beer. Lots of beer. Serious beer. As in beer from all over the world served by the goblet, pint, or half yard. Order a Coors Light at your own peril. The bill of fare is American, with a healthy dose of salads, pastas, sandwiches, pizzas, seafood, steaks, ribs and chops.

Waterway Café
2300 PGA Blvd.
Palm Beach Gardens
561-694-1700
www.waterwaycafe.com

This long-time area favorite offers indoor and outdoor waterfront dining, fresh seafood, live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Get there early to stake out a spot on the floating bar.

The Rum Bar at Panama Hattie's

11511 Ellison Wilson Rd.
Palm Beach Gardens
561-627-1545
www.rumbarathatties.com

This waterfront tiki bar is part of Panama Hattie's, an area favorite for seafood for more than 20 years. Happy hour is till 7 p.m. daily. On Sundays there's an all-you-can-eat pig roast for just $10. Be warned: Each Thursday Rum Bar hosts a 'drum circle.' From PGA National, head east on PGA Blvd. and take a right on Ellison Wilson.

Guanabanas

960 North AIA
Jupiter
561-747-8878
www.guanabanas.com

Just 15 minutes or so north of PGA National, Guanabanas has become in less than a year, the place to go in northern Palm Beach county for a tropical dining and drinking experience that's simultaneously upscale and laid back. The menu has a Caribbean flair with offerings like Cuban pork empanadas, grilled rock shrimp tacos, lobster cerviche, macadamia coconut snapper, and more. If there's not a live band, expect to hear plenty of Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley on the sound system.

World Golf Hall of Fame member and a three-time major champion Nick Price, who lives nearby, is a regular. 'Guanabanas is one of my favorite places to hang out in Jupiter,' he said. 'There's a great atmosphere, wonderful food and the coldest beers!'
