When the heavy stuff comes down: Sun Mountain's H2NO bag

RSS

If you're a fair-weather golfer, having waterproof outerwear, much less a waterproof golf bag, might not seem that important. But if you live in the Pacific Northwest, for example, where misty conditions are common, or you yearn to take a golf trip to Scotland or Ireland, you know how valuable it is to not only keep yourself dry, but your clubs and valuables as well.

Fortunately, for those who don't mind playing in the wet stuff, Sun Mountain has been offering a waterproof bag since 2007, and for 2014, has now expanded its H2NO line to include cart bags and carry bags, all constructed with waterproof fabric, taped seams, and waterproof zippers.

The bags are just as advertised. It rains, and the things inside the bag – like mobile phones, rangefinders and even cigars -- stay dry, including the clubs if you use the zippered rain hood that has a better fastener system than most bags on the market. The waterproof pockets and rain hood on the H2NO bags feature the same waterproof construction as Sun Mountain’s line of rainwear to include waterproof fabric, taped seams, and waterproof zippers.

Sun Mountain’s most popular bag in Europe, the H2NO carry bags feature tops with integrated handles for ease in picking up and setting down, a top-molded stand attachment for stability, Sun Mountain’s E-Z Fit Dual Strap System, patented Roller-Bottom stand mechanism for easy leg activation, and for those who use a golf cart, H2NO stand bags have leg lock straps and a cart-friendly bottom. H2NO carry bags also have plenty of storage space, including a full-length clothing pocket, a velour-lined valuables pocket, and multiple accessory pockets. Carry bag models include the H2NO Lite ($259) and H2NO Ultra Lite ($229). The H2NO Cart bag features a larger diameter, individual club-divided top, and waterproof pockets to include two full-length clothing pockets, multiple accessory pockets and a velour-lined valuables pocket ($289).

Best of all, however, is that in addition to being waterproof, these bags have all the features Sun Mountain is known for, including being incredibly lightweight. They're easy to handle and durable.

The truth is Sun Mountain has been doing golf bags well for a long time, so whatever model you choose, it's hard to go wrong. Over the years, Sun Mountain has even been called upon by other equipment companies, such as Ping, Callaway and Titleist, for example, to collaborate on the design and manufacturing of golf bags for them. The company has been credited with many firsts, including being the first to use backpack technology to create a lightweight golf bag and inventing the modern stand bag.
