Round 1 play heating up at Cutter & Buck Classic

RSS

Royal St. George's is providing a stern test for participants in the Cutter & Buck Classic, but several of the best players on the WGT Virtual Tour have already gone low on the course that hosted the 2011 Open Championship.

The Tour Legend division is currently topped by BigNick092785, who carded an impressive 51 during his opening round. That effort was good enough to give him a one-shot lead over both AllyKennedy and Lizard69, while three-time WGT Virtual Tour winner dansamcam is just two shots off the pace after an opening 53.

There is a logjam at the top of the Legend tier, with four players tied for the lead after first-round 53s: papadeaux, Appetit, WaLk0fLiFe and WeidaDeNei.

First-round highlights from Royal St. George's include an ace on the par-3 third hole from WaLk0fLife and a hole-out from taiger70 in the Amateur division.

Players have an unlimited number of chances to post their best opening-round total by May 26, then will have only one chance to post a second-round score by May 31. The players with the best two-round cumulative totals will split a 200,000 WGT credit purse, and the prizes will count toward each player's season-long total as qualification for the year-end Virtual Tour Championship continues to heat up.
