Difficulty of defending a title
Gary Williams played in the McGladrey Classic Pro-Am with defending champion Ben Crane which sparked a discussion on why it's so difficult for players to defend their titles on the PGA Tour.the Morning Drive Studios for golfchannel.com. Gary Williams, Ahmad Rashad, Steve Sands. Ben Crane is defending this week at the McGladrey Classic, he hasn't been in great health. I have the pleasure of playing with him in the Pro-Am round and it's always great to defend, it means you won something within the last year. Why is it so hard Steve, to defend on the PGA Tour ? - I think it's the sort to win on the PGA Tour . I think it's as hard to do as anything there is in sports. I mean, we talked about this on the TV side. Fred Couples is going in to the World's Hall of Fame in May, when we get to Players Championship. He won 15 times and probably a good 26 to 28 competitive years on the PGA Tour . 15 times and he's going in to the World's Hall of Fame. It's really, really hard to win him out. - Oncematter what era. - Going back to back as well on the PGA Tour , you have obligations that you did not have the previous year. - No, let's say Tiger Woods or Rory Mcllroy or Phil Mickelson or somebody of that elk, if you're Ben Crane you come in to the McGladrey last year, a lot in-- in a much different likening you do this year. This year,

So that works perfectly for us. -I wish in my dreams. Well, speaking of people with very low handicaps, Tiger Woods I know you and he has played a lot of golf together. You guys live in the same area. Tell me about Tiger Woods and the time that you spend with him. -Well, Tiger and I spent quite a bigger time together because our kids are in school together. My daughter Ava and his daughter Sam are in the same classroom. So, we see each other every morning, going to school and early afternoon picking up school. So, there was a long period of time where we would take our kids to school and then at 10:00 we'd be on the golf course and play golf all day until 3, then we have to go pick the kids up. So, I've had a chance to spend a lot
