Another player playing to defend his title this week is Bernd Wiesberger at the Indonesian Masters. The Austrian is fresh from a second place finish at last week's Malaysian Open, and has a tough task if he's to repeat his success in Jakarta, with the like of Victor Dubuisson and Louis Oosthuizen in attendance. Rumford leads by 1 in China
Brett Rumford leads the Volvo China Open by 1 over Mikko llonen at 12 under par. Steve Burkowski brings you the 3rd round highlights from China.73 on Saturday, finishing up at 11-under par. Winner a week ago, Brett Rumford . What a gorgeous play here at 6th, stops on a dime after 5 straight pars. That was his first birdie moving him to 10-under par. He would birdie the 7th as well. Then the tee shot at the par 3, 8th, wonderfully done there by Brett Rumford . That would lead to his 3rd straight birdie and his 3rd straight round under 70, 68, 67, 69 for Brett Rumford . Good enough for a 1-shot lead over Mikko Ilonen. Pablo Larrazábal 2 shots off the pace and after his round, Brett Rumford caught up with Julian Tutt. -9 greens missed, 9 pars, pretty impressive. -Thank you, Julian. That was a tough day. That was a really tired day. I really started to feel it on the back 9 just starting things starting to catch up and would come across perhaps like a wet fish, sorry to the viewers, but I just was not all in the mood for a seemingly for someone playing golf there, but you know I did really, really well hang in nicely. I put some really tired golf swings and I could feel it, the lethargy and just in my body so and tonight I'll be doing my best to try to recover for tomorrow, but you know I did well. I just hang in there. I just mentally stayed with it, physically not so but mentally just trying to stay in the game and also just trying to force as many pars as I could, wasn't putting as I said putting too good of golf swings on it. They're really, really tired but Ron did a great job today as well, kept things you know very simple andBrett. -Well be sure to tune in on Sunday to see if Brett Rumford can win for the 2nd consecutive week on the European Tour . Rumford wins China Open for back-to-back titles
Brett Rumford captured the Volvo China Open for his second win in as many weeks and his fifth title on the European Tour. Rumford fired a 4-under 68 in the final round to defeat Mikko Ilonen by four shots. Brett Rumford began the final day with a 1 shot lead this for birdie at 6, his third in the first 6 holes. Thatnow for birdie from about 40 feet. Oh, and how about that? Brett Rumford would move to 17-under par. But Ilonen with some issues here at 13, missed the green pitch to that point. He would drop a shot so a 2-shot swing on 13th. Rumford's lead was now 4, then at the very next hole for 3 birdies in a row. This was the kind of week it was for Brett Rumford . How about that? That would move him to 18-under par. His lead would actually go to 6 shots. It was a walk in the park from there. It's happening at last and Brett Rumford , the winner for the second consecutive week on the European Tour and after his win he cut off with Julian Tutt. -Brett, many congratulations. That was a just a stunning performance. -Yeah, thankyou know, finish it off. It might have some pretty all 3 golf swings [unk], but your whole concentration just gets-- It's just a completely different way to play the game or different mind set, should I say, from the rest around and all of a sudden you just gonna defend rather than trying to make something happens, so-- But that's what a subtle experience, but it's the first time we've been in that position and as I say, you know, I will learn from it and hope we get stronger for the next time. -Oh, you certainly learn from it 4 rounds in the 60s for Brett Rumford , a 4-shot victory over Mikko Ilonen. It is his 5th career European Tour title and his second in his many weeks.
