Not so fast: Was Wie written off too soon?
GolfChannel.com writer Will Gray thinks the golf world may have been premature in writing off Michelle Wie.player in his prime and one who's over the hill. On the PGA tour , a popular line in the sand is 25 years old. Younger than that and you're still considered a rising star. Rory McIlroy, Harris English and Russell Henley each have multiple wins to their credit, and at age 24, each is seen as having his best golfing year still ahead of him. Then, there's Michelle Wei. She's gone through multiple swing changes, long stretches of struggle and currently employs possibly the most unique putting stance in the game of golf. But like the other three, Wie also has multiple titles to her credit. Just last year, she factored at the LPGA Championship before tying for ninth, and this year in 2014 she hasn't finished worse than a tie for sixteenth. She's worked her way all the back up to 38th in the Rolex rankings. Also, as she's climbing the leaderboard this week at the Kraft Nabisco Championship , consider the fact that Wei is, too, 24 years old, just like the other three, and in fact she is younger than Roy McElroy, younger than Harris English, and younger than Russel Henley. She's only nine months older than Patrick Reed, whose comments last month were attributed to youthful confidence. Perception can be a funny thing, and the fact that Wei has been around the game for more than a decade likely factors how fans view her. Likewise, it's a little easier to win at a young age on LPGA tour than it is on PGA tour . Just ask Lydia Ko. But as she continues to play well this week, remember before you write of Michelle Wei, she's closer
