Shackelford on Griffith Park as an Olympic course
Geoff Shackelford talks about Griffith Park being selected as a possible 2024 Summer Olympics venue. Watch Morning Drive on Golf Channel.an Olympic year, golf returns to the Olympics. Los Angeles and its Olympic bid has Griffith Park as the potential site for golf. I grew up in LA. I love Griffith Park . I think it's the right choice. Do you agree? Oh, I do. This caught me totally by surprise. This was exciting. We just thought they'd throw it to Riviera. And i think what the people are thinking in the bid is to to, you know the last Olympic games here left ana amazing legacy. They were very profitable and we have a lot of facilities and different things that are funded because of them. And I think the group this time realized that we need to do that again. And so I think the belief was that Griffith Park is a very nice public course but It needs some help. It's like Sharp Park, another project from that era that George Thomas designed one of the courses and helped fund the completion of the other one. It's fine. It's in very good shape. We talked about it recently with the Special Olympics World Games, and they did a super job getting ready for that. But it's time architecturally to To bring it into the new century. We have so many public courses around the country like that. And the price tag they mentioned in the bid documents kind of shocked me. But it's exciting that they're talking about doing this, because what a great legacy if we were to get the games here to leave behind a restored Griffith Park . Absolutely. Griffith Park needs a little help. Hopefully, it get's the help that it needs. Now
