Gary Williams, Charlie Rymer, Mark Rolfing and Holly Sonders take a quick look Quail Hollow's par-4 finishing hole. Watch Morning Drive 7AM ET.493 yards in the lake. Bunker right in that creek to the left field . Mickelson, if you listen to him this week he said, listen, I know that if I push it just a little bit left, I'm gonna be in that water. Hence, we've seen him favoring the right side up and down out of that bunker to save par yesterday, Gary. Yeah, he did, and it's just you see that, that water that runs all the way down the left side, wraps around the left side of that green, and you've got the right fairway bunker , Charlie, as well. So you gotta, you gotta pick a line and you gotta trust it. We saw Martin Flores driving in the hazard. We saw Justin Rose . And history tells you, that getting through that hole and making four, is a very difficult thing. If you're a player like
Stat Man: Wells Fargo Preview
GolfChannel.com associate editor Will Gray previews the 2014 Wells Fargo Championship in this edition of Stat Man.after a quick pit stop in Charlotte. He notched his first career PGA tour win here in 2010 in a final round at 62 that still stands as the course record. And just two years ago, lost in the playoff to Ricky Fowler. Last year he tied for tenth and overall he seemed comfortable enough in the Tarheel State to perhaps Roy Williams we'll soon check and see if he has any eligibility left. We'll have to see. Next up 75th surprisingly, that's Phil Mickelson's rank in strokes-game putting the 13-14 season. That's a far cry from last year, where he was sixth, or 2012, when he was tenth. Then next top ten for Mickelson on the PGA tour will be his first this season, and the flag stick has really been the issue. Remember, he has led the tour in birdie average last season, and this year, he's 45th. He's averaging almost two fewer birdies per round, and in his last start at Augusta National , he had a three putt triple bogie that basically derailed his opening round. Next stat, $287,287 not a record stuck on repeat.week. Just three finishing holes that will test the field like few PGA Tour stops can. The par four sixteenth has a new look. The par three seventeenth plays long and over water. But the crown

Watch Morning Drive everyday 7AM ET.Players on the PGA Tour certainly aware of the Green Mile , the hardest three-hole stretch on the PGA Tour from 2007 through last year. 16, 17 certainly challenging holes. But most of the discussion when you talk to PGA Tour players, about the Green Mile center on the 18th, and it should. Boy, what a challenging. Finishing hole, the 18th at Quail Hollow is. Let's have a little closer look at the 18th. This is a par four club that can stretch to 490 yards. Yeah, you have to put your big boy pants on and hit a good tee shot . I think what Justin Rose said is really accurate. You gotta stand up, and you've gotta hit two really good golf shots. Challenges you off the tee, you've got the water on the left. You, you bail it out to the right and, and hit it in the trees, in the, in the rough there. You've got a long shot back in. So, I, I think this is one of the great finishing holes on the PGA tour and, and certainly one of the exciting finishing holes because if you've got a one shot lead, you've gotta stand there and, and, and really. You know, such it up and go. Right. I agree, a 100%. When you stand on tee, there is no place to hide. and, and I think the importance of playing a challenging hole like this, importance of having the game plan. It, it, it, that, that is something that can't be underestimated. You know, you have got to think about how am I gonna play, this tee shot so let's sort of go through that. I'm going to talk from the professional standpoint on, on the approach you would take
How to approach (shot) fast greens

Watch Morning Drive everyday 7AM ET.choose one less club and hit it harder which will launch the golf ball higher. You need the speed and the spin to get it up. And the other thing to, to keep in mind is on firm greens when you experience someone you're playing at home. There's certain hole locations you're just not gonna get to. When, when you've got front hole locations, and that green is, green very firm. In particular if you've got a little wind helping, you've gotta be ready to take your medicine. That's true for the folks at home. It's also true for the PGA tour players as they seek Quail Hollow this week. There'll just be places that they can't get to. If they can't get to
