It's been the stage for many prestigious tournaments. Most notably the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor. This here marks another milestone in the principality's golfing heritage, as Royal Porthcawl l hosts Wales' first major championship , the 2014 Senior Open. Oh, brilliant, I think we needed to come to Wales for such a long time and Porthcawl. That's probably one I'll find is golf courses , so, it's gonna be nice to see, how it reacts to all the crowds and everything. The course is designed to providefor travel in, in, in, in Wales let people come play the golf courses in Wales. As I say, we got a lot of good golf courses . A lot of people don't know where we are. Golfing World: Golf in Wales
Ahead of the Senior Open at Royal Porthcrawl we take a look at what Wales has to offer.had a great golfing tradition. Boasting some fantastic courses. And when the Ryder Cup was awarded to the Celtic Manor Resort, the country grasped the opportunity to showcase that to the world. In the last decade there's been a 40% increase in the volume of golf visitors to Wales. Thanks largely to the impact of that famous Ryder Cup in 2010. I think the Ryder cup has opened people's eyes to, to golf in Wales. I think people don't realize how many fantastic golf courses there are in Wales and having the senior of bringing top level championship golf to Wales which I think is very, very important. With the Ryder Cup coming to Wales in 2010 was a huge, huge moment for us in in golf. And for the country too. There are now a lot of people who are coming to Wales to play golf who'd never even heard of us before the Ryder Cup , so apart from staging one of the great championships, it's really helped the golf clubs in Wales. And it's really put us firmly on the map. The impact of the Ryder Cup has been felt across the countries golfing landscape with visitors now more aware of the unspoiled gems on offer. Whether that beworld, and I think Golf Digest which is one of the biggest golf magazines in the world has, has ranked the club very, very highly above probably four current open venues. So, I think the repetition and image of is extremely strong. In July 2014, Royal Porthcawl will host Wales' first major, stating three days of top draw competition and featuring some of the biggest names in the game. Been meaning to come to Wales for such a long time and Pool Court is. That's probably one of our finest golf courses. It's a very challenging golf course . You've got to play quite smart. Sometimes you just don't take too much risk and keep it on the fairway you've got half a chance. I come in every year to play the workshop in in Celtic Manor there and I enjoy myself around there, yeah, and I will be, I hope I can enjoy myself also round here. And, I hear it's a great golf course , and it's a nice venue, and then I just well, I'm looking forward to be there, and and enjoy the links. Obviously Wales holds a special place to me, you know, with the Ryder Cup being mentioned, but at the same time, I would love to try and win this Senior Open Championship. I look forward to to seeing I've heard great things about it. It's a super golf course . And I look forward to getting down there and playing
