Golf. I'm your teacher, Martin Hall. And to help us with the chipping tip for juniors, I'm joined by Austin Chara Chela. Did I say it properly? -Yes. -Welcome. Thank you for joining us on the set today. We're gonna do a little chipping tip here. Now, Austin is a pretty good player. There's no question about that. But we all need a bit of coaching from time to time. The short game is so important if you're going to be a junior. The short game is what gives you the low, low scores. No doubt about it. -Yes. -Now Austin, in chipping -- I don't know whether you do or not-- but everybody could do with a bit of this. It's like chipping therapy for everybody. Most people, sometime or another, will make a rather unsavory move where they try and sort of scoop up at the ball and the weight stays on the right foot, and you know, the club finishes up high, and nothing good happens other than the ball just goes across the green like a rocket-- -Yeah. -into the lake [unk]. -What I used to do. -That's what you used to do? -Yeah. -I'm glad to hear it's what you used to do. But now, you can't do that anymore. But this is a drill. I call it sort of aerobics for chipping . So, I want you to pretend you're my shadow. We're going to do the practice swing to start with. So, no ball. -

coming right back with Cristie Kerr, some chipping tips. Also a little bit later some putting ..... important aspect of an amateur's game, chipping from around the green. -Absolutely ..... this? -Well, I think, you know, chipping and short game pitching, it really allows
you again. -Thank you. -We're coming right back with Cristie Kerr, some chipping tips. Also a little bit later some putting tips from Jason Day, but right now, Bernhard Langer is gonna get in thea brutally difficult but also incredibly important aspect of an amateur's game, chipping from around the green. -Absolutely important. When you think of how many greens the amateur player misses, and then how many shots they have here, they don't spend near enough practice time in this area as they should and one thing that Cristie is gonna show us is how to hit different shots with different clubs. And the normal amateur will hit every shot with the same club. They never even change their club so it's gonna be fun. -When you get in around the green, you don't miss many greens, Cristie, but when you do miss a green, what is the thought process as you enter a shot like this? -Well, I think, you know, chipping and short game pitching, it really allows a lot of creativity. You know, when we do miss a green, we have adifferent shots and it's just so much fun for me to practice chipping . -Well, it's fun to challenge yourself and you've got a pretty straightforward pitcher to this center flag. Tell us what you're doing -

-School of Golf Chapter 7: Chipping it Close. -Come on-- -Oh, not ..... the show. All right. Chapter 7: Chipping it Close. What's your lesson plan ..... to teach you the critical keys to chipping and show you how to get it close
-School of Golf Chapter 7: Chipping it Close. -Come on-- -Oh, not too bad. Just a little low but-- -It's [unk] -But not too bad. Hi there everyone, will take your questions later in the show. All right. Chapter 7: Chipping it Close. What's your lesson plan looking like Martin? -Oh, yes. Well I love the lesson plan. It's so very important. Okay, here we go with the lesson plan. I'm going to teach you the critical keys to chipping and show you how to get it close using your mind's eye and the third eye, and we're going to use swing fix look at Holly's swing. And I'm going to show her how to correct some issues many of you faced. And then we'll dive in to the art of the short game with some great tips from one of the best instructors in the game Stan Utley. All right, Chapter 7: Chipping it Close. Let's get going. Now look, let's talk about a definition of what a chip short is. A chip short is a ball that rolls more than it carries. It carries a little bit and it rolls a lot. That's the simple description of what a chip shot is. It doesn't go away up in the air and not roll very far. It rolls more than it carries. And before we get into the technique, I really want you to hear me and hear me really well on this. Distance control is more important than direction when you're chipping . Distance control is more important than direction. Two or three feet left, two or three feet right, it doesn't matter if you get the right distance. So you must work on distance control first. Now, second thing I want you to know about chipping is you really should trying to land the ball on the green whenever possible. Don't land it short to the green if you have any alternatives. And the third thing before we get to the technique on the chipping is you need to see the shot in your mind's eye even before you take a practice swing, even before the sidewalkseemed to always hit fat and usually up towards the toe when chipping . I'm looking for more consistent sentence strike. Well, I'm glad to try and help you here. We're going to talk a little -

Academy: Short game with a 3-wood
lot of times when you find yourself in chipping areas below the green where it's all ..... maybe you just simply don't trust your chipping . So, to me, there is one shot you ..... green with their short gras and that's chipping with a 3-wood and it's really simple
There's a lot of times when you find yourself in chipping areas below the green where it's all short grass up to the green or maybe quite ways off the green, where you really don't wanna putt as too far away. But maybe you have a bad lie, maybe it's a tight lie, maybe it's muddy lie, maybe in a bad lie period. Or maybe you just simply don't trust your chipping . So, to me, there is one shot you can always go to, which can take the risk out of any shot around the green with their short gras and that's chipping with a 3-wood and it's really simple. For a reason simply that it has-- my 3-wood has 13 degrees of loft, there'sof the guess work and take a lot of mystery out of chipping . And if you're not confident of if you've got a bad lie. So, whenever you kinda get in doubt, take the risk -

School of Golf: The Art of Scoring
I wanted to show you how I have people practice their chipping . I've build the ultimate chipping station here. The ultimate way for you to get feedback as to whether your chipping motion is correct. Don't confuse chipping with pitching
year. I wanted to show you how I have people practice their chipping . I've build the ultimate chipping station here. The ultimate way for you to get feedback as to whether your chipping motion is correct. Don't confuse chipping with pitching. Pitching is the high flow to where you brush the grass. Chipping is where you trap down on the ball and you chip it a little and it runs quite a long way. So, what have I got in my ultimate chipping station? Well, I have had one club length in front of my ball. I've got a piece of string and I've justof those 3 there and why does that make this the ultimate chipping station? Having taught a long time, the most common mistake I see in chipping is people swinging around too flatly, coming in too shallow, and finishing too high which would mean you would hit the shaft going back, hit the 2x4 coming down, and hit the string going through. No, no, no. You don't want to do that at all. Here's what I would suggest that you do: Play the ball back in your stance a little bit; get the weight to the left; done properly with the ultimate chipping station, the club will elevate or you will elevate the club a further 2x4. You'll swing on a play that doesn't allow it to hit that shaft. It doesn't go inwards too soon and you're going to try and both knock the ball and finish with the club head lower than the strings. I want the ball to go under the strings and I want the club head to finish lower than the strings. Okay, here we go. Ultimate chipping station: Ball is back; weight is forward; pick it up; tap it through; try knock it low under that string and you've got the ultimate chipping station, not too bad at all, guarantees a really good contact, doesn't give you a high shot, gives you a good contact, -
