to help us with the chipping tip for juniors, I'm joined by Austin Chara Chela. Did I say it properly? -Yes. -Welcome. Thank you for joining us on the set today. We're gonna do a little chipping tip here. Now, Austin is a pretty good player. There's no question about that. But we all need a bit of coaching from time to time. The short game is so important if you're going to be a junior. The short game is what gives you the low, low scores. No doubt about it. -Yes. -Now Austin , in chipping-- I don't know whether you do or not-- but everybody could do with a bit of this. It's like chippingI want a little bit of giving the wrist going back there, Austin . -Okay. -Left foot, right toe, right hand off after impact. I love it. Now, let's see you do that with a ball. -

you help me bomb it, please? -Well, I'm going to have Mike Austin help us bomb it. -Okay. -Legendary hitter of the ball. 515 yards at-- -Wow. -age 64. Averaged over 300 yards at age 77. Way ahead of his time. He has some very interesting thoughts on the golf swing. He's not with us anymore, but I'm sure if we could dial upstairs and talk to him and talk about hip action, he'd say, "Aye, that's what they need, a better hip action." So many people think that the hip should turn level. I did for a long time. Mike Austin way back when realized "no, they don't." As you swing back, the left hip should go down. And then as you swing through, the right hip should go down. Now, keep in the right knee flexed in the back swing. It needs to be a sacred cow and it's one we should slay. If distance is your want, you should not try and keep your right knee flexed on the backswing. The right leg should extend, said Mike Austin , as the left knee flexes going back and then vice-versa. So, the hips actually work on a tilt. -Uh-huh. -That's his compound pivot. So, it's left hip down, left hip up. That adds a lot of pop. That's a lot of pop-- -Nice. -to the golf ball when you're doing that. Understanding that, the other thing Mike Austin said for sure was the downswing is a step and a throw. Now, for him, his step-- we've heard about the step.right hip out to right field out to 10 o'clock. So, Mike Austin would say that the downswing is definitely a step than a throw. -Okay. -It's not a pull. I think he said it's a not church bell pull. You're not harpooning. You're not pulling down with the left arm. You are throwing it around the circle and you are stepping and throwing it around the circle. And the one thing I clearly remember from Mike Austin as well was he would say at the end of the swing if you really want to bash it, finish with your chest up. I've got my marker here. You're going to finish with the chest up. It's extension of the spine. He was years ahead of his time. -That was like a-- -Anything you can find on Mike Austin is going to help you hit the ball farther no doubt. -Very nice. And time to take a Facebook question from the -

to help us with a great tip for juniors, I'm joined by Austin Chara Chela. Did I say it properly? -Yes. -I did. Okay, Austin , one of the things that just about all youngsters would like to do is power that ball miles. And in so doing, sometimes, they get moving their body too much. -Yes. -So, I've got a sort of a balancing drill, balance you to make sure you don't use your body too much. Actually, this drill should be done by all juniors. It really should. It's been done by many major champions indeed and here's how this drill goes. Because, sometimes, in an effort to hit the ball far, Austin , you and every other youngster, you'll get sort of swinging yourself a bit too much-- -Yeah. -and not swinging, you miss the -

Nice looking putting stroke there actually. I like people when they're putting to actually look at the target. It's a bit of a preference of mine, but I think it helps people feel the distance the ball's going to go. Nice looking stroke. Okay, here we go Austin Chara Chela. This one's for the first tee, make it a goodie young man, fist bump if it goes in. Now two -

He said yes. His grip was way too weak meaning the back of the hand was to the ground and I suggested he turned his hand over. You've overdone that by some and a bit and I'm actually going to talk to you about the grip in a different way. I don't like talking about turning the hand over, turning it under. -Yes. -There was a great teacher from Austin , Texas called Harvey Penick and he said he hated people twisting the arm.
