International Crown

July 24-27, 2014

Caves Valley Golf Course - Baltimore, Maryland | Par: 71
Purse: 1,600,000

The LPGA Tour showcases a new event on its schedule, the International Crown in Owings Mills, Maryland. The event will be played at Caves Valley Golf Club which is par 71 and can be stretched all the way to 6,942 yards in length. The International Crown isn’t a standard stroke play event and is a global match play competition showcasing teams from eight countries. The eight countries competing are: Japan, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, United States, Spain, Sweden, Chinese Taipei and Australia. The competition will feature three days of four-ball competition and one day of singles matches on Sunday. Five of the eight countries will advance to the Sunday singles matches based on the outcome of the four-ball matches contested. Two points will be awarded for a win, one for a tie and zero for a loss. The countries have been divided into pool play with Pool A consisting of the United States, Thailand, Spain and Chinese Taipei. Pool B has Republic of Korea, Japan, Sweden and Australia. After three days of four-ball competition the two teams with the most points from each pool and one wild-card team will advance to Sunday singles matches. Any country in third or tied for third will compete in a sudden-death, wild-card playoff to determine the final team to advance to Sunday. After the wild card playoff, countries will be re-seeded #1 through #5 based on total points earned in the four-ball matches. Each country will play one singles match against every other country. After the final putt is completed on the Sunday singles matches, the country with the highest point total from the four days of competition will be “crowned” champion. If there is a playoff for the title, the countries involved will pick one player to compete in a sudden death playoff. Notable players competing in the event include: Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Lexi Thompson and Cristie Kerr (USA); Belen Mozo, Azahara Munoz, Carlota Ciganda and Belen Mozo (ESP); Inbee Park, So Yeon Ryu, Na Yeon Choi and I.K. Kim (KOR); Anna Nordqvist (SWE), Karrie Webb (AUS) and Yani Tseng (TPE).
