The U.S. Open of Golf is one of the four major tournaments played every year in the month of June. It has been played since 1895 with only two interruptions during world wars I and II. The first champion was Horace Rawlins at the age of 21 he was part of a field that included 10 professionals and one amateur. Nowadays in order to participate in the event, players have to earn their spots through 14 different regional competitions, or by being fully exempt (past winners, winners of other majors, top 60 of the official world ranking, etc). This year the event will be held at the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. Webb Simpson will be in attendance to defend his title, but the competition will be fierce as Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Bubba Watson will also be in contention.
