Sanctioned by the International Federation of PGA Tour since its commencement back in 1999, the WGC Cadillac Championship is set to tee off this weekend at its most recent American home, the TPC Blue Monster Course at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami. This historic South Florida course is well known to some of the game’s greatest players, as it has been the site of PGA Tour events for nearly fifty years. The 72 hole, stroke play features a field known for its long fairways, water hazards, and deep Bermuda rough, only to be topped off by its signature 18th hole that has been listed by Golf Magazine as one of the Top 100 Holes in the World. Last year, England’s Justin Rose won the championship by just one stroke over Bubba Watson, with Rory McIlroy not far behind. A well-traveled event that has also taken place in Spain, Ireland, and England, this WGC tournament title has been won eight out of 13 times by Americans, with Tiger Woods taking home six and Phil Mickelson the rest.
