The State of the Game

In the modern era, golf is more dynamic than anything on the sports page. Interest in the game continues to grow, and golf shines as a sport with broad appeal across generations and genders. One could also make the case that the personalities within this game are as diverse and interesting as any sport.

From 13-year-old Michelle Wies long-hitting exploits to the resurgence of Craig Stadler and Tom Watson ' both over 50, both playing well on two tours ' golf has given fans a lot to look at, talk about and enjoy. And with Wie, Annika Sorenstam and Suzy Whaley joining the men and playing with grace and dignity, golf in 2003 has presented the best of what sports can be.
The current state of the game and its future are certainly in good hands.
