Daly on US Open Bubble

John Daly is on the bubble for the second straight major, although he is a little more indifferent this time around. After all, the U.S. Open has never been his favorite major.
Daly closed with a 66 on Sunday at the Byron Nelson and moved up 41 spots into a tie for 26th, hopeful of getting as many world ranking points as possible. Alas, he dropped four spots to No. 54 this week, and needs to get back into the top 50 after the St. Jude Classic in Memphis next week to be exempt for the U.S. Open.
The top 10 on the PGA Tour money list after Memphis also qualify. Daly is No. 12.
Asked if he would try to qualify, Daly quickly replied, 'No.'
'I like Shinnecock,' he said. 'Hopefully, I'll play my way in. Other than that, I'm not going to try to qualify.'
Across the pond, Colin Montgomerie is No. 50 this week in the world. He is playing the next two weeks in Germany and the Volvo PGA at Wentworth, the latter one of the higher-ranked events on the European tour. Montgomerie has not missed the U.S. Open since he made his debut in 1992 by finishing third at Pebble Beach.
