Hal Sutton Foundation to Build Childrens Hospital

Hal Sutton_PGA Tour standout Hal Sutton, a Shreveport native, was back in his home town this week to announce his effort to bring a children's hospital to the area.
The Hal Sutton Foudation is teaming with Christus Schumpert Health Systems and LSU Health Sciences Center with a goal of bringing a world-class, free-standing children's hospital to the area. All involved believe the hospital could bring more to the community than just good health care for children.
'In my opinion, I think this is the biggest thing that could happen to Shreveport, Louisiana, in a long, long time.' Sutton said. 'It will be something that will hold our kids here. One of the things that disappoints me about Shreveport is that when our kids grow up they want to go to Dallas or Houston or Atlanta.'
'There are a number of fine children's hospitals out there,' said Wayne Sensor, president and CEO of Christus Schumpert. 'But our goal is to build the children's hospital of the future. I don't want to build a hospital to respond to today's needs. I want to anticipate 10 years from now. I want this to be the place where you go when your child is sick.'
The first step of the project will be to initiate a feasibilty study, which will take three to six months.
The nation has about 140 children's hospitals, but no such a facility exists within 150 miles of the Shreveport-Bossier area. An estimated 1.2 million people live within 100 miles of the area.
