Love Donates $700000 to Church

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- Davis Love III has given his church the $700,000 he won in the Match Play Championship, where his confrontation with a heckler overshadowed his second-place finish.
The money will go toward the St. Simons Presbyterian Church's $5 million, five-year building project.
'We'd already made our pledge, but we wanted to do something more to make us feel better about the whole thing,' said Love, of Sea Island. 'That was a great week of golf for me, but no one was talking about it that way. It's a week I'll always remember, and we just wanted to make sure something good came out of it.'
Love came in second behind Tiger Woods on Feb. 29 at La Costa Resort on Carlsbad, Calif., winning $700,000. But during the final round, a heckler caused Love to confront the gallery, seeking out the man and demanding that he be taken away, causing a controversy about the golfer's handling of the situation.
