LPGA Moving Tulsa Event from Fall to Spring

Ladies Professional Golf AssociationBROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- The LPGA will move its annual event in suburban Tulsa up four months to May, organizers announced Monday.
The SemGroup Championship presented by John Q. Hammons will be held May 4-6 at Cedar Ridge Country Club, instead of in September as it has been the past five years.
The move will place the tournament between the LPGA's first two majors, the Kraft Nabisco Championship and the McDonald's LPGA Championship, and create a bigger separation between the event and the PGA Championship, which will be played at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa on Aug. 9-12.
Cristie Kerr won this year's tournament Sunday with a 14-under-par 199, the lowest score since the tournament moved to Cedar Ridge in 2004. Annika Sorenstam has won the event three times.
The tournament was known as the John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic the past three years and was called the Williams Championship in 2002 and 2003.
Cedar Ridge has committed to hosting the tournament through 2009.
It was not immediately clear what would happen to the event held on the first weekend in May this year, the Franklin American Mortgage Championship in Franklin, Tenn.
The full LPGA schedule for 2007 has not yet been announced.
