Miyazato Struggles Against Men in Japan

OKINAWA, Japan -- Japanese women's star Ai Miyazato opened with a 9-over-par 80 on Thursday and was 15 strokes off the lead against the men after the first round of the Japan Okinawa Open.
Miyazato, just back from earning a U.S. LPGA Tour card for next year, had five bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey against a lone birdie at the par-71 Naha Golf Club.
'I feel fine so I thought I would be able to get a better score,' said Miyazato. 'All I can do is hope to play better tomorrow.'
Miyazato, who won six times on the Japan LPGA this year, has invigorated the sport in Japan and plans to play on the U.S. LPGA tour next year.
Fiji's Dinesh Chand took the first round lead along with Japan's Kaname Yokoo after both players shot 65s in the opening round.
