Rivals Norman and Faldo to Join Forces

NAPLES, Fla. -- Greg Norman had a tough time beating Nick Faldo in the majors. Now the Shark will get him as a partner.
Norman and Faldo will be one of 12 teams competing in the Merrill Lynch Shootout on Nov. 10-12, a reunion of golfs top rivalry in the early 1990s that turned out to be one-sided.
Weve enjoyed many battles over the years, and it will be a pleasure for us to be on the same side for once, said Norman, the host of the three-day event at Tiburon Golf Club.
Faldo won six major championships, two at the expense of Norman. Their most famous encounter came at the 1996 Masters, when Norman blew a six-shot lead in the final round. Faldo closed with a 67 and Norman shot 78. They also were paired in the final group of the third round at the 1990 British Open at St. Andrews. Faldo beat him by nine shots that day (67-76) on his way to the claret jug.
Norman held off Faldo three years later at Royal St. Georges to win his second British Open.
Annika Sorenstam will be making her debut in the Merrill Lynch Shootout, teaming with Fred Couples. And in a partnership built on power, John Daly will play with J.B. Holmes. The defending champions are John Huston and Kenny Perry.
