Sorenstams Grand Slam Bid Over

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. -- Annika Sorenstam's quest for the Grand Slam ended before it ever really began.
Sorenstam shot her second straight 69 Sunday, but was never in contention in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the year's first LPGA major.
Instead of ending the tournament with the traditional winner's plunge into the pond surrounding the 18th green, Sorenstam ended it by hitting her ball into the water for a bogey.
She never recovered from a 4-over 76 on Friday that eliminated any chance she had of winning the first of the four major titles.
'It's disappointing,' Sorenstam said. 'But, on the other hand, it gets me fired up for the other three. That's why I set high goals for myself.'
Sorenstam came into the Nabisco with a goal of winning all four LPGA major championships, something nobody has done. She left the tournament proud of herself for playing aggressively during the weekend and finishing under par.
'I'm not really going to look back too much,' Sorenstam said. 'I tried so hard the last two days. I'm going to look at that and be happy.'
