Stephens to Become New Sponsor of Nationwide Event

FORT SMITH, Ark. -- The Nationwide Tour's Fort Smith tournament will be sponsored by Stephens Inc.
The event was known as the Rheem Classic before Rheem Manufacturing Co. announced in September that it wouldn't remain the title sponsor. The tournament will now be called the Fort Smith Classic, presented by Stephens Inc. It was also called the Fort Smith Classic from 2000-02.
'The Fort Smith Classic has been good for Arkansas and golf,' said Warren Stephens, president and CEO of Stephens Inc., a Little Rock-based investment-banking firm.
'For the players, it has become one of the more popular stops on the Nationwide Tour, and the tournament's volunteers are consistently graded as some of the best in all of professional golf. I am glad to help in assuring the continued success of this PGA Tour event,' Stephens said.
The PGA Tour owns and operates the Nationwide Tour.
The Fort Smith tournament takes place at Hardscrabble Country Club. It will be held for the 10th time next year from April 30-May 6.
The Times Record newspaper of Fort Smith, owned by Stephens Media Group, was the event's presenting sponsor before Rheem.
