Top seeds advance at U.S. Girls' Junior Amateur

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Casie Cathrea, Eimi Koga, Gabriella Then and Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugam advanced to the second round of match play at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship on Wednesday.

Seven of the top eight players won in the first round, with fourth-seeded Nicole Morales of South Salem, N.Y., losing 5 and 3 to Bryana Nguyen of Columbia, Md.

Jutanugam, a 15-year-old who played in the U.S. Women’s Open two weeks ago, beat Marissa Chow of Honolulu, 6 and 4. The second-seeded Cathrea of Livermore, Calif., defeated Lakareber Abe of Angleton, Texas, 2 up, and Koga of Honolulu got bas Mega Bionien of Altus, Okla, 3 and 2.

Then, seeded eighth, beat Lou Daniela Uy of the Philippines, 7 and 6, and Jisog Keel of Canada got past Kayli Quinton of Houston in 19 holes.
