TV Ratings Remain Level

NEW YORK -- Another surprising British Open victory by a relative unknown kept the TV ratings about the same for this year's tournament.
ABC's broadcast of Todd Hamilton's playoff victory over Ernie Els on Sunday at Royal Troon got a 4.7 overnight rating, the same as Ben Curtis' stunning victory last year at Royal St. George's.
Both were down 4 percent from the 4.9 in 2002 when Els won in a four-way playoff.
The rating is the percentage of all homes with TVs, whether or not they are in use. Overnight ratings measure the 55 largest TV markets in the United States, covering nearly 70 percent of the country.
Each overnight rating point represents about 735,000 TV homes.
